Successfully completing a TEFL certificate program and honing your teaching skills is only half the battle.  Finding gainful employment in a position you truly desire is the ultimate goal, and our human resource (HR)/career center team is here to assist in reaching it.   Whether you are seeking an online teaching position, or want to travel and teach abroad, there is a lot of information you will need to know and process in advance to ensure that you secure the best teaching position and enjoy a positive classroom experience.      

Our HR team will communicate with you bi-weekly, on average, over a period of 2-4 months while you are completing your coursework.  This ensures that there is enough time to process information on specific employers and/or locations across the globe that have sparked (or piqued) your interest.  Understanding this information will help you with your perspectives, perceptions, and expectations, all of which help steer you towards more positive experiences and outcomes.

What you need to know...

A certificate is only as good as the opportunity it provides to those who receive it. To that end,  Promise Opens Doors is committed to helping its graduates find the right employment opportunities once they have successfully received their TEFL certificate.

 

With that in mind, here are the answers to the most important questions about your TESOL/TEFL career:

  • Why is our program distinct and more desirable to employers? 
    Promise Opens Doors' long history began as an employer of online EFL teachers in 2004. We know exactly what employers are looking for. Frankly speaking, it's true that beyond the brand name certificates of CELTA and TESOL International, employers can't give much credence to other certificates because there are just so many out there to keep track of. That's not to say all other programs don't offer you something of value, but if you have one of these, employers may or may not acknowledge it. If they do, they simply check it off the list of requirements and then work with you through the next stages of interviewing to see if you are a good teaching candidate. To put ourselves in the same realm as CELTA and TESOL International and help you gain immediate recognition (and therefore a leg up in your job-seeking), Promise Opens Doors has taken a unique, two-pronged approach to helping our graduates find gainful employment. To that end: 1) We partnered with TESOL International Association, who reviews our training program(s). This allows us to gain the recognition and stamp of quality that any employer will trust. It gives our graduates the recognition of a premium certificate on their resume, at a fraction of the cost (a CELTA or TESOL International certificate will cost you north of $2500). 2) We continue to establish more relationships with employers who will recognize our certificate as one that produces the highest-quality teachers. By expanding this employer network, we are able to build a pipeline for our graduates to a vast array of onsite and online opportunities.
  • What HR services does Promise Opens Doors offer?
    Our HR team begins communicating with our participants after the second week of starting a certificate program. This ensures that our participants receive great care and quality of service as preparation for employment happens over months of working together. Our HR team will discuss with you the various options suited to you according to your individual desires and/or needs, directing you to employers that present a good fit, and providing information on how to best prepare for applying.
  • Will I be able to utilize the HR services after my first job?
    Yes, graduates of our program are welcome to reach out to our HR team for assistance at any time during their TESOL/TEFL career.
  • Do you offer a guarantee of employment after graduation?
    No company can fully guarantee employment with their certificate. That said, Promise Opens Doors offers the next best thing. We are so confident in the quality and strength of our training, coupled with the opportunities that come within our growing employer network, that if you are unable to find any employment opportunities within 3 months of your graduation, we will gladly offer you a 50% refund on the tuition you paid. ​
