CERTIFICATE OVERVIEW
TESOL Core Certificate Program
Certificate > Apply > Course Overview > Observation & Teaching Practicum > Tech Requirements
Who Should Attend?
The program is designed for current or prospective teachers and administrators, worldwide, who have little to no formal training in English Language Teaching (ELT). Participants will focus on teaching young learners, in EFL environments. This is due in large part to the fact that Promise Opens Doors has over 14 years of teaching ESL to K-12 students.
Participants wishing to focus on Adult Learners can apply directly to TESOL International Association.
Program Requirements
To earn the TESOL Core Certificate, participants must successfully complete three parts:
-
60-hour (6-week) online Foundations course on the fundamentals of TESOL
-
60-hour (6-week) online Young Learners course
-
25-hour teaching practicum
-
10 hours of in-person classroom observation
-
15 hours of in-person practice teaching
-
Time Commitment
The 145 hours of required course work and practicum components can be completed in 4 to 6 months. All courses are asynchronous. A minimum of 10 hours per week should be devoted to the online course work. With that being said, students are expected to check-in to their course at least every other day, if not daily.
Grading and Assessment
The TESOL Core Certificate Program, as well as the online courses that make up the core of the program, are organized on a pass (satisfactory completion of all requirements)/no pass (unsatisfactory) basis. Satisfactory completion is equal to an 80% or higher on all scores.
